CBT training through consultative supervision
The Cognitive Behavioral Institute of Albuquerque offers training for therapists who are licensed by their states to practice independently as Licensed/ Certified Counselors, Licensed Social Workers, Advanced Practice Psychiatric Nurses/Psychiatric Nurse Educators/Preceptors, Psychiatrists, or Psychologists. Proof of independent licensure must be provided by the trainee prior to the beginning of training.
Trainees receive detailed feedback on video recordings of actual therapy sessions with their clients. The trainee is responsible for submitting each video recording in DVD-R or CD-R format along with a $100 fee. Recordings made using a webcam are permissible, as long as the quality of all audio and video is adequate. Disks containing video data files in .WMV or .AVI file format are also permissible. All potentially identifying information about the client must be excluded from the submission, and the trainee is responsible for obtaining the client’s prior written consent to record their session for consultation. All recordings must be submitted by mail or in person; no electronic submissions will be accepted. Each recorded session must be no greater than 50 minutes in length.
After viewing the recording, the consultative supervisor will then schedule a 50-minute feedback session with the trainee, either in person or over the phone. The trainee is expected to retain a copy of the video recording so that specific segments can be reviewed during the feedback session. The Cognitive Therapy Rating Scale will be used to structure the feedback given for each submission. After the feedback session, the consultative supervisor will destroy the submitted copy of the recording.
Each session reviewed is considered by the Cognitive Behavioral Institute of Albuquerque to constitute one hour of training in CBT.
